Volunteer opportunities

We could not do the work we do without our volunteers.

Making connections with people from all ages helps us live longer, healthier, happier lives. Take the first step to bringing laughter, light and friendship to someone today.

Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme

Helping Hand Aged Care Inc has partnered with the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) to connect older people in our community with a dedicated volunteer. We want to bring friendship, support and joy to older people who may be socially isolated, or who might be finding it hard to connect with others due to culture or language barriers.

Formerly the Community Visitors Scheme, the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme is an initiative funded by the Australian Government. The scheme brings many benefits both to those volunteering, and to older Australians living in residential aged care homes or who receive a Home Care Package in their own home.

We are currently looking for people to volunteer at our homes in Golden Grove, Ingle Farm, Lightsview, Mawson Lakes, North Adelaide, Parafield Gardens and Whyalla, to match with a resident over a 12 month period, for just an hour a fortnight. We will try and link you with someone who has similar interests to you, so you have some common ground when you meet. Activities you might consider could be as simple as having a cuppa and a chat, going for a walk, playing card games, reading or listening to music – or why not try something new together.

For more information about ACVVS and to join the program, please contact our ACVVS Coordinator Nat McCarthy via email: [email protected] or phone 1300 653 600.

Volunteering is a wonderful way for me to meet people and get involved in the community. I have met so many wonderful residents. I’ve heard so many interesting stories that I could write a book
