We know when good people come together, amazing things happen! So, we’re focused on enabling you to bring your best self to work every single day. That’s why we’re working hard to ensure our culture is one where everyone feels secure, valued and supported. But don’t take our word for it – here’s what three of our people told us.

Teams that genuinely care

We all have our good days and bad ones, too. But how important is it, on the bad days, to know your team has your back? Home Support Worker Josh has faced his share of challenges, but at Helping Hand, he knows the people working alongside him truly care how he is.

“I’ve had car issues at times when I’ve scheduled client visits. Once my car wouldn’t start; another time, I locked myself out. You start to feel a bit of anxiety! But I’ll call the office, and they will just listen. And they’ll say, ‘Josh, take a deep breath. It’s going to be OK. Life happens. You can’t help these things, you know?’”

Josh appreciates that he can count on this support not only from the office but from his managers too.

“I can’t honestly say one bad thing about Helping Hand, especially my current manager. She has gone above and beyond to support me; she’s even trying to convince me to get my Cert III so I can do personal care! She just encourages me. She says, ‘You’ll be good at it. You just have to give it a go.’”

Managers who want you to succeed

At Helping Hand, you’ll find leaders who truly invest in you. Like Donna, our Residential Services Group Manager, who exemplifies compassionate leadership. Donna’s people know she wants to see them bring their best and grow their skills and knowledge with Helping Hand.

“I have no issue shoulder-tapping someone in the team and saying, ‘You know what fabulous skills you have? Have you thought about doing XYZ?” It’s about encouraging staff to recognise their skills because sometimes they don’t see what we see.”

For Donna, it’s also about reinforcing a culture where you can make mistakes and it’s not the end of the world.

“Sometimes things go wrong, don’t they? That’s just life. But it’s about going, ‘OK what in our system process or structure or support wasn’t right? What can we do to help make that better?’ We’re a larger organisation, but we’ve still got a really nice family feel and a really supportive community. If you need help, there’s always someone on the end of the phone.”

Support you can count on

Our work isn’t easy. That’s part and parcel of aged care. But here, you’ll find teams that’ll help you out, right when you need it most. Safety Business Partner Lauren who has worked with many different teams during her lengthy career at Helping Hand, knows full well how important this is.

“What keeps me at Helping Hand? One of the biggest things is having good teams supporting each other, people you can go to who will genuinely give you their time and help you, even when busy. That’s what makes the difference. The teamwork aspect is vital, and it’s really good at Helping Hand. I think that’s why a lot of people stay and why they come back, too.”
